Having grown up along the shores of Lake Bernard in Northern Ontario, J.E.Bailey has spent countless summer days in the north, paddling canoes, collecting wildflowers and creating her imagined world.
Night time has the ability to place a dark blanket over the landscape that can make us feel both small by its enormity and comforted by its embrace both at the same time.
J.E. Bailey’s night sky paintings are a favourite with collectors. Her depictions of home and hearth illicit a soothing calm indicative of the darkness that surrounds us in the wee small hours.
Living amidst the rural landscape of Ontario, Canada, J.E. Bailey was at first drawn to the black and white holstein cattle dotting its rich green landscape. She quickly came to identify with many of their “human” characteristics and since that time, has incorporated images of the Canadian countryside in her creative landscapes with a special focus on the places we call home and the beings that inhabit those places.
Whimsy and playfulness are a long standing tradition of the folk art that Canada is known for.
